About Me

Dr. Silvia is a dedicated scientist and educator with a strong commitment to advancing biomedical research and mentoring the next generation of scientists. She holds a PhD in Medical Biophysics and an MS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Southern California, along with a BS in Biochemistry from California State University, Long Beach. Her academic excellence has been recognized through multiple honors, including placement on the Dean’s and President’s Lists and the prestigious NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (F31). Over the past decade, her research has focused on protein misfolding, amyloid aggregation, and neurodegenerative diseases, utilizing advanced techniques such as solid-state NMR spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Her work has been published in respected scientific journals and presented at both national and international conferences.
In addition to her research, Dr. Silvia is passionate about education and mentorship. She currently serves as a guest lecturer at Claremont McKenna College, where she guides students in their academic and professional development in the sciences. Through her teaching and mentoring, she aims to inspire curiosity, scientific rigor, and confidence in emerging researchers. Her dual expertise in research and education uniquely positions her to foster meaningful connections between scientific discovery and student growth.
